Iced Earth’s “Dystopia” Album details revealed

Iced Earth’s new album, “Dystopia”  will be released in Europe on October 17 and in the U.S. on October 18 via Century Media Records. Two bonus tracks are also being recorded for the special edition of the album.

Guitarist/Songwriter Jon Schaffer said his interest in dystopian themes in music and movies led him to try his hand at that genre as well — even paying homage on the new album to the movies “Dark City”, “V For Vendetta”, and “Soylent Green”.

For the die-hard Iced Earth fans, there are two songs on “Dystopia” (the title track and “Tragedy and Triumph”) that feature the return of the “Something Wicked” storyline and Set Abominae,  who was last seen in their previous release, “The Crucible of Man”,  has taken his position as ruler of the world.

Schaffer also comments on working with new vocalist Stu Block (Into Eternity) saying it is “a pleasure.”

“You just can’t ask for a better attitude. Stu is so excited to be here. He brings a youthful exuberance to the band, which is a lot of fun. And he’s a real dude. He’s down to earth, and willing to try anything that Jim [Morris, co-producer, engineer] or I throw at him. He’s stepping into the shoes in a very natural way. We’re opening up a part of his voice and a style of singing that he didn’t even really know he had. We’re exploring this whole new range. And we’re just getting started. I believe Stu will continue to grow — and has the potential to grow — into one of the greats, one of the guys that will go down in metal history. If he stays on this course, with the attitude that he has, his willingness to learn, and his passion, he’s destined for really great things. I firmly believe that.”

Track Listing for “Dystopia”:

  1. * Dystopia
  2. * Anthem
  3. * Days of Rage
  4. * Soylent Green
  5. * V
  6. * Boiling Point
  7. * Anguish of Youth
  8. * Iron Will
  9. * Dark City
  10. * End of Innocence

ICED EARTH  will undertake the most extensive world tour in the bands history to support the album. The tour begins October 30 in Europe, staring in Bochum, Germany.

REDEMPTION Announce release date for new studio album “This Mortal Coil”

REDEMPTION, the US progressive metal band featuring in its ranks guitarist/songwriter Nick van Dyk and legendary Fates Warning vocalist Ray Alder, proudly announces that their newest, 5th studio album release and follow-up to the highly successful “Snowfall On Judgment Day” in 2009, will be entitled “This Mortal Coil” and is to be released on September 26th, 2011 in Europe and October 11th, 2011 in North America via InsideOutMusic.

REDEMPTION recorded and mixed “This Mortal Coil” with legendary producer Neil Kernon (Queensryche, Nevermore, Kansas, etc.). The album’s artwork, which makes its first appearance with this press release, was created by acclaimed artist and longtime band collaborator Travis Smith

(Opeth, Avenged Sevenfold, Nevermore, etc).

REDEMPTION’s Nick van Dyk checked in commenting on the album as follows:

I’m extremely pleased to announce that work on ‘This Mortal Coil’ has been completed.

It was a pleasure to work with Neil Kernon during the production, although I dare say we had more challenges and curve-balls in this process than either of us is accustomed to. Nonetheless we overcame everything in our path, from internet failures to lightning strikes, and since one of the themes of this CD is essentially overcoming adversity, the production process served as a bit of a metaphor for the whole concept!”

“The new CD continues our creative effort to combine heaviness with melody — fusing those disparate elements has always been part of REDEMPTION’s sound, along with an element that I have called emotional urgency, which we’ve maintained here. All in all, it sounds like REDEMPTION — although importantly I think it’s by far our best-sounding record, owing to the work of Neil Kernon and the mastering of Alan Douches.”

And Van Dyk adds regarding the artwork:

We have worked once again with the incredibly talented Travis Smith on our art; we work very well together and he has a proven knack for bringing my concepts to life visually.”

Most recently, REDEMPTION have announced a string of European concerts to support the release of “This Mortal Coil” in early October 2011, including a headlining slot at this year’s edition of the “ProgPower Europe” festival.

REDEMPTION Live in Europe 2011:

  1. 1. Oct – London, UK, The Underworld
  2. 2. Oct – Baarlo, The Netherlands, Progpower Europe
  3. 4. Oct – Pratteln, Switzerland, Galery Music Bar/Z-7
  4. 5. Oct – Fontaneto D’Agogna / Novara, Italy, Phenomenon Club
  5. 7. Oct – Essen, Germany, Turock
  6. 8. Oct – Copenhagen, Denmark, Denmark Rock Festival

Megadeth sets the new album title as ‘TH1RT3EN’

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has announced details about the new Megadeth record, tentatively due in November through Roadrunner Records. Recently Rolling Stone caught up with Dave, there are some snippets from the interview below. It will be the first album in 10 years, to feature original bassist, David Ellefson.

RS: How did you find the time to record TH1RT3EN, since Megadeth has been on the road constantly?

DM: “We only had a little bit of time to do this, and realistically, expecting a band of our nature, stature, our songwriting process, [and] the availability of all the band members – to try to squeeze a record in two month’s timeframe, who were we kidding? But we did it. Man, we worked our butts off on that. I had some seriously long days. There were some days that I woke up at my computer, with an imprint on my face from sleeping on the keyboard.”

RS: Does the album title have a deeper meaning besides being the group’s 13th release?
DM: “I was born on September 13th; this is my thirteenth record. It just seemed like it was the right thing to do to call it TH1RT3EN.”

RS: What are some of the song titles?
DM: “There’s a title track, a couple of songs, there’s “Sudden Death” which was on the Guitar Hero game – that was extremely successful and garnered us another Grammy nomination. Then there was “Never Dead,” which came out for the Konami video game Never Dead. The record itself will probably be coming out around November 1st.”

RS: How was it recording with bassist Dave Ellefson again?
DM: “It’s not like it was anything new – Dave and I were close friends for almost 30 years. And although we didn’t play together for a span of time, that wasn’t my doing. If I had been able to prevent my arm from getting hurt [in 2002], everything probably wouldn’t have happened the way that it did. But I really believe that all of us have ended up better people than it was.”
